What will you do?

Help us build the automation systems that make renewable energy truly reliable. The energy transition depends on more than generating renewable power. It requires smart, robust systems to store and control it. As an Application Engineer, you design and develop the automation software that enables advanced flywheel and battery energy storage systems (FESS/BESS) to operate safely, efficiently, and in sync with real-world grid conditions.

From day one, you take ownership of the automation layer that brings these systems to life. You think about how the system should behave, both internally and from a customer perspective. How should a flywheel and battery interact under dynamic grid conditions? How do you balance performance, safety, and reliability? You translate these questions into concrete control strategies and turn them into working systems. Your core responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain PLC software (Codesys-based)
  • Integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components
  • Translate customer requirements into robust technical solutions

As systems take shape, you validate and improve them. You test components and full systems, support on-site commissioning, and fine-tune performance under real-world conditions. At the same time, you look beyond individual projects and contribute to the bigger picture:

  • Identify patterns and improve reusability across systems
  • Contribute to standardizing the software as we scale
  • Manage and document changes as systems evolve

Why this role is interesting

You don’t work on standard machines, you build first-of-a-kind energy systems. You own how the system behaves, not just the code behind it. Together with the team, you close the loop between design and reality: from concept to commissioning. Your work directly impacts demanding, real-world environments like construction sites and ports where performance truly matters. Everything you build contributes to accelerating the energy transition and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Who are we looking for?

An engineer who takes ownership and enjoys solving real-world problems. You are proactive, pragmatic, and comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment. You don’t wait for everything to be perfect, you start, learn, and improve along the way. Combining a solid theoretical foundation with a hands-on mindset. You enjoy translating complex technical challenges into systems that actually work. You’ll likely recognize yourself in this:

  • You enjoy working on problems without standard solutions
  • You like combining thinking, building, testing, and improving
  • You’re curious about system behavior and control strategies
  • You take initiative and feel responsible for the end result

  • Travel reimbursement of €0,23 cents per kilometer or full reimbursement of public transport (second class)
  • Opportunity to participate in the company’s growth through an employee equity scheme (STAK)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Casual working environment in an international and close team of engineers
  • Just a 5-minute walk from and to the Culemborg train station

What will you bring?

  • AD or Bachelor degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or similar
  • Programming experience in industrial environments
  • Hands-on experience with Codesys-based PLC-programming
  • Experience with tools like JIRA in a development environment
  • Your English is fluent (Dutch is a plus)
  • Experience in standardization efforts is a nice to have
  • Hands-on engineering experience (e.g. solar teams, robotics, personal builds) is a nice to have

Working at QuinteQ Energy

Good to know

Founded in 2019 QuinteQ Energy is an innovative technology company based in Culemborg that specializes in energy storage. With their advanced flywheel systems, they temporarily store electricity and return it at lightning speed during peak load. In doing so, they help companies and infrastructure use energy more efficiently, reduce grid congestion, and accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.

QuinteQ Energy is actively building the future of their technology. For this vacancy, they are working exclusively with Goodfinders. We guide you through the process, but from day one you will be part of the QuinteQ Energy team if you are the innovative engineer we are looking for.
